The National Certification Board for
Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) announced that Elizabeth
Berkey, RD CDE and Director of Nutrition Services at
Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville has achieved Certified
Diabetes Educator (CDE) status by successfully completing
the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators.
Berkey had to meet rigorous credential and professional
practice experience requirements to be eligible to
take the examination. Achieving the CDE credential
demonstrates to patients and healthcare partners that
Berkey possesses distinct and specialized knowledge,
thereby promoting quality of care for patients with
diabetes.
Berkey has worked as the Director of Nutrition Services
at Upland Hills Health since the summer of 2003. Managing
a staff of nearly 30, Berkey has placed emphasis on
nutrition education and the benefits of a healthy diet.
Besides her management duties, Berkey also serves in
a clinical capacity—directly involved in patient
care.
“Diabetes is becoming a growing healthcare concern,” stated
Berkey, “with this certification Upland Hills
Health can better serve the needs of patients managing
diabetes. I am excited to provide patients with information
that will empower them.” Berkey noted that patients
will need a referral from their physician to start
the education process.
